2016 saw the launch of Melbourne-based psych-pop artist Blyolk with his first single ‘Don Wowry’ – an off kilter tune with a warped pop aesthetic. Fused with elements of neo-psychedelia and gritty electronic rhythms ‘Don Wowry’ was an introduction for more to come from the artist. Following on from this is Blyolk’s second release – ‘Artshole’. Self produced and mastered by Joe Lambert (Animal Collective, Toro Y Moi, Macklemore) the song explores themes of freedom, selfishness and societal expectation.
Onstage Blyolk translates his studio productions into a visceral display challenging the expectations of both conventional band and electronic live performance. Blyolk will be launching ‘Artshole’ at Melbourne’s Workers Club on Thursday 9th March with Francesca Gonzales, Null, Paradise DJs and Analogue Sunset (DJ set).
lyrics
If you want, quick get upon it
I’m the new face of fear
At a roadblock, while my bike stops
Slow should walk passing here
A builder tells me, they all guide with
Purpose, meaningful thoughts
I stop by a tree, loose belt, knees
Clear urine’s healthy I’m taught
Everyone wants to end this part
Everyone wants to leave the room
Then they want to become your friend
When you suddenly to them looked cool
Everyone wants a piece of selfish pie
What posters and posers will do
I question my mind
Believe what you’ve read and you’ve heard
It’s bible
Belief in yourself and your words
Is easily replaceable, fool
What posers and posters will do
To change our minds
Everyone wants to end this part
Everyone wants to leave the room
Then they want to become your friend
When you suddenly to them looked cool
Everyone wants a piece of selfish pie
Slow I’m pedalling, back in sunset
Melbourne burns my eyes
I bought glasses and some classes there
To change my life
Important people, they’ve got answers
Drugs, wisdom, acid
They can expand your mind
Posers will do
I question my mind
Believe what you’ve read and you’ve heard
It’s bible
Belief in yourself and your words
Is easily replaceable, fool
What posers and posters will do
To change our minds
What posters and posers will do
I question my mind
Believed what you read and you heard
It’s bible
We live in a pleasant new world
To escape all the fools
What posers and posters will do
But I’ve changed my mind
